Historic rainfall not seen since 1915 leaves most roadways underwater.
Here is everything we know:
1. Record Rainfall The St. Louis area shattered the all-time daily rainfall record, reporting 8.06 inches of rain through 7:00AM July 26. The previous record was set on August 20, 1915 with 6.85 inches. 2. Flooding Large portions of Highway 70 is underwater as of 7:39a. Thomas Howes published this photo around 7:30a on Highway 70 at Mid Rivers.
The primary concern lies at the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 370 where you can see the highway remains closed in both directions.
We searched through Facebook and there is at least some staanding-water being reported on these roads as well:
- Highway Z - Highway D - Cole Blvd. - Dearfield Drive - Belleau Creek Road - Highway 79 at TR Hughes Blvd. - Highway P at Dames Park Here is another look at Highway 70 at Mid Rivers this morning.

The Governor signed into law a piece of legislation designating the David Hoekel Parkway overpass as 'Marine LCPL Jared Schmitz Memorial Bridge'WENTZVILLE: The Jared Schmitz Memorial Bridge will soon become a reality after Governor Mike Parson signed into law House Bill 1738 which designates the newly constructed bridge on David Hoekel Parkway that crosses over Highway 70 in Wentzville as "Marine LCPL Jared Schmitz Memorial Bridge." This memorial designation will become effective August 28, 2022. The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs designating such highway, with the cost to be paid by private donation. Mark Schmitz, Jared's father, gives credit to Representative Schroer and Wentzville Mayor Nick Guccionie for lobbying the government for the bridge. Mark shared this publicly on his Facebook page: This news comes only days after Wentzville celebrated “Jared Schmitz Day” on July 8th.

On Friday night, December 10, 2021, the St. Charles County Correspondent traveled to Defiance for the Candle Light Tours. And it began a peaceful evening - thousands of candles lined the pathways of the historic Daniel Boone Home and Village for hundreds of visitors who were making their way from building to building enjoying the Christmas spirit. But around 7:15p it all changed when a rapidly moving storm cell moved into southern St. Charles County and shortly after 7:30p a tornado was spotted near Defiance along Highway F only miles from the Boone Home. Preliminary reports indicate Highway F was closed for a time with power lines blocking the road and at least one structure was severely damaged. For those of us caught in the intense storm, we were forced to shelter-in-place in any basement we could find below the historic homes. We made our way, slowly, down the winding staircase and remained in the stuffy, dusty, brick-laced basement for the next 90 minutes. In our particular basement, the wonderful Winfield Chamber Singers calmed our nerves with ‘Silent Night’ as the storm raged overhead: You can view more videos from inside the shelter and during the storm by viewing our collection here.

The St. Charles County Executive’s race is over. In June. State Senator Bob Onder announced this week he was dropping out of the race, saying it was “best for my family.” Onder was running in the August 2022 Republican primary against current St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann, who is serving his fourth term in office and is seeking reelection. With Onder out of the race, this paves the way for Ehlmann to serve a fifth term. There is no democrat in the race. Onder said: "While I will continue to engage in public policy in order to serve our great county and our great country, after lengthy discussion, reflection and prayer, my wife Allison and I have concluded that it is not in the best interests of our family that I continue the race for St. Charles County Executive. This decision, I believe, is best for my family, and will also allow me to focus on elections deeply important to the future of our state, including the race for my own replacement in Senate District 2." |
